I have a lot of interests: video games, computers, electronics, music, languages, logic, philosophy, sociology. I probably have a lot of unique circumstances that make me different from 99% of the other people out there, but that 99% have their own circumstances too. I’ve got an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Chinese, although I don’t do anything related to either at the moment. I work as a software consultant. Born and raised in the USA. Politics and religion do not interest me, but I have my own (perhaps unfounded) opinions on them both.
I’m not so organized as to have favorite things, but I probably do have a highly-recommended list:
Movies: Hmm, tough one. I really liked V for Vendetta, for something serious(er), otherwise I’d go with Love Actually or Shaolin Soccer. Both the new Batmans are awesome, as is Memento… I also like Inception… Christopher Nolan is just a stand-up guy, really.
Music: I enjoy Owl City a lot. Ingrid Michaelson, Jason Mraz, Erin McCarley, Sarah McLachlan, Imogen Heap, Colbie Caillat, Muse, Secondhand Serenade are among my favorite artists. I’m also into anime soundtracks.
Video game: Final Fantasy X is a wonderfully crafted game, hard but not overbearingly so, with a great story. Persona 3: FES is long and engaging, although I generally like RPGs for the world-crawling. Valkyria Chronicles, even though I’m not very far into it. Can’t believe I forgot to mention the Disgaea series! I haven’t liked other NIS games quite as much, but I am quite obsessed with all the Disgaea games.
Anime: To Aru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index) and derivatives are among my favorites, Code Geass is very good, Hayate no Gotoku for something light-hearted, Bakemonogatari or Durarara!! for something thought-provoking.
Food: Turnip cake and flan. Not together, obviously. For something more conventional, tuna noodle salad. Meatloaf and cheesecake are slowly climbing my “top” list. Seared salmon… *drool* Also, spider (deep-fried soft-shelled crab) and unagi (eel) sushi. Almost anything from the restaurant Bluephies.
Manga: There’s enough good manga out there that’s not anime (yet) that deserve shout-outs. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is really good, just a peaceful, whimsical story. Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer I’ve mentioned in my blog multiple times, it looks kind of random but the story is actually incredibly serious at times and it’s very good at hiding its depth. Of course, I’m a guy, so I like Bakuman, Negima, Reborn, etc. as well. I follow too much manga, so I’ll just list out a bunch: Mysterious Girlfriend X, Fruits Basket, Onidere, Medaka Box, Beelzebub, Skip Beat, Special A, xxxHolic, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, Rosario+Vampire (way better than the anime), Kandachime, Bamboo Blade… bleh, too much!
I think those are about all the topics where the subject matter is diverse enough to provide unique recommendations.
